Determining Your Actual Bra Size: Finding What Fits

Shopping for bras is never an easy task. It’s difficult enough finding your bra size in each brand. You also have to contend with finding one that fits in the style that you want.

In fact, it’s so difficult to find the right bra that studies have shown that 80% of people have gone their whole lives wearing the wrong size. Most of them tend to wear bras that are much too tight, while about one-tenth of that number wear ones that are too big.

But while these numbers might seem slightly intimidating, worry not! We at I’m In, are here to enlighten you on what you’re doing wrong and how to start buying bras that actually fit.

Step 1: Measuring your band size

Your band size is what we’d refer to as the measurement around your ribcage and just below your breasts.

To measure this, stand straight and upright without wearing a bra. Now, with a measuring tape, measure the width of your body under your bust – where the band of your bra would rest. Note this number to check against a size chart from wherever you’d like to purchase a bra.

Step 2: Measuring your cup size

Next, use the measuring tape against the fullest part of your breasts. Take down this number as well. The disparity in numbers between this measurement and your band size would be what is known as your cup size. You can then also match this to the size chart to find your perfect fit.

What if your breasts are asymmetrical?

If you’ve ever felt embarrassed because one of your breasts is larger than the other, don’t be. It’s incredibly commonplace. However, if you want to avoid problems regarding the fit, it’s always prudent to make sure the bra fits your bigger breast first. If the difference in size really bothers you, you can always fill out the other one with padding or a bra cutlet.

How can you be sure your bra fits?

For bras, it is essential to ensure that your cup is the right size first. They should hold your bust consistently without pressing tightly against the skin of your breasts. You should also check if your breasts fall out over the sides of the bra.

Now that you know your cup fits properly, you can focus on the band. It should fit snugly against your under-bust area, but a leeway of about an inch is also necessary. A good tip is to hook your bra to the outermost hooks first before moving inward as time progresses and the band stretches.

With that being done, it’s time to adjust the straps. You want to make sure that they are supporting your breasts without pressing too tightly into your shoulders – which would mean that there is something off with your band or cup measurements. In that case, it would be smart to measure them again to ensure utmost accuracy.

How often do you need to go bra shopping?

Aside from checking your measurements every six months as your body fluctuates, even the most long-lasting bras wouldn’t last more than a year or two. If you need them to stay effective for as long as they can, it’s crucial to handwash these intimates and not overwear them. You don’t want your bras stretching out and losing their firmness.

Conclusion

Finding out your bra size is absolutely vital. It helps prevent health issues and gives you the comfort you need to go about your day. Luckily, I’M I’N has a handy size chart and a range of comfortable, stylish, and high-quality bras from super push up bras to bralettes to bandeau bras, all for your perusal.
